Do you know that feeling when you’re creating something you love — and then you meet someone whose aesthetic so closely mirrors your own that your ideas seem to grow together, naturally? If you know that feeling, you and I are the lucky ones.
As I was launching my Artisan Treasures collection, one evening I passed by a shop in Montclair Village that instantly drew my eye — Ji | The Atelier. The store was closed, but as my husband and I peered through the window, we both had the same thought: I need to reach out.

Soon after, I connected with Ji, the owner and curator behind Ji | The Atelier. Her space celebrates craftsmanship, authenticity, and timeless design — filled with carefully sourced ceramics, hand-carved pieces, and objects that carry a quiet sense of history. I shared my own passion for depicting handcrafted, time-touched vessels in my artwork, and how I envisioned my paintings complementing the ambiance of her shop.

After a few visits, art showcases, and long conversations about our shared love for natural materials and sculptural form, we both felt there was a match. Ji selected one of the larger pieces from Artisan Treasures that resonated with her most — a painting that mirrored the graceful shapes of the vases she already had on display. She suggested adding smaller single-vessel paintings that could be placed within the shop’s shelves, beside her collection of antique and vintage ceramics.

Over the summer, I created a new series of smaller works inspired by that idea — keeping in mind the balance, tone, and warmth of Ji’s space. To my delight, Ji’s vision aligned perfectly with mine. Together, we found a shared rhythm — a way of blending fine art and curated design that felt completely natural.

The result was the Timeless Vessels series — artworks that bring the beauty of history into a modern, approachable form. Each piece features a single vessel, displayed like a cherished relic, inspired by ancient pottery from around the world. Textured surfaces, soft earth tones, and subtle shadows evoke a sense of serenity and permanence — the same qualities that define Ji’s curated world at The Atelier.

At the heart of TextureScape by Alla Anew is the connection between nature, craftsmanship, and feeling — where each artwork captures the tactile poetry of materials and the calm that handmade beauty brings into our lives. In Ji | The Atelier, those values find a home among objects that tell similar stories — of artisanship, timelessness, and care.
This collaboration has felt organic and joyful — a dialogue between art and object, canvas and clay. It’s been wonderful to see how visitors to the store respond to the pieces, often drawn by the same quiet appreciation for ceramics and craftsmanship that inspired them in the first place.
When creative visions align, something larger than either one of us emerges — and that’s exactly what I’ve found in this partnership.
